By Joanna Mendoza. Interview by Gina Tumlos
After director Keishi Otomo and actors Takeru Satoh, Munetaka Aoki, and Emi Takei passed by my side of the red carpet, I went straight to the cinema where the premiere of Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno would be held to look for cosplayers to interview. As an aside, movie clubber and super Kenshin fan Gina Tumlos attended the premiere and got to watch Kyoto Inferno, and she loved it!
Going back to interviewing cosplayers…
At the cinema, I got together with fellow movie clubbers Gina and my sister Jen Tuazon. There we looked for a cosplayer who was game for an interview, and we found Jean Bunyi, who won her ticket to the premiere only that night. Not having won a ticket from her previous efforts, she took her chances at the premiere night itself and it paid off. Talk about dedication!
By the time the interview was over, the organizers had started letting people into the cinema. We were given only two tickets, and since Gina was the biggest fan of the three of us, we all agreed that she use both tickets.
Once everyone with a ticket had gone inside the cinema, Jen and I decided to shamelessly be fangirls ourselves–of Rocket Raccoon and Groot! We found replicas of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters, so we positioned ourselves beside our favorites and clicked away! (Find out why we’re such huge fans of Guardians!)
Fun pic! It took us quite a few shots to get it right. Because Groot’s replica was actually more of a bust. Yep, it was just his big, big head, and the actual size was this:
The day after, Gina attended the Rurouni Kenshin press conference, where Otomo, Satoh, and Aoki answered questions from fans and the media. Watch the entire press conference!
