Last month, Movie Clubber Joanna Mendoza was able to catch a preview of the latest Spider-Man movie and she shared five things she found amazing about the new sequel. Now, after seeing the movie in full, we discovered five more things we love about Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
1. Many “wow” moments
So many scenes from the movie literally left me uttering the word “wow’ in my seat more times than I could count! Even in this day and age, Spider-Man 2 found a way to create awe-inducing scenes with the winning combination of top-of-the-line special effects, fight scenes that will leave you breathless, and a spectacular score (thanks to legendary Hans Zimmer). The slow motion scenes were particularly effective in showing Spider-Man’s “web thingie” as well as in illustrating how villain Electro’s power works.
2. Dane DeHaan
Dane DeHaan, as Harry Osborn, totally stole the show from superstar Jamie Foxx, who as Max Dillon-turned-Electro was supposed to be THE villain in the movie. DeHaan as the Green Goblin is definitely one thing to look forward to in The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
(Disclaimer! I may be a bit biased though as DeHaan in this movie is such a dead ringer for a young Leonardo DiCaprio!)
3. The Music
From the scary scene unveiling Electro’s wrath to another showing Spider-Man coming to a bullied-in-distress’ rescue; from poignant moments between Peter Parker and Aunt May to the bromance exchanges between pals Peter and Harry Osborn, to the cute, romantic scenes between Peter and Gwen Stacy, the movie’s music plays a significant part in moving viewers’ emotions. And no wonder, with Oscar winner and “living genius” Hans Zimmer in charge of the music for Spider-Man 2. The end credits also feature good songs from The Neighborhood (“Honest”), Alicia Keys featuring Kendrick Lamar (“It’s On Again”), and the new Spider-Man theme, “I’m Spider-Man,” composed by Hans Zimmer, the Magnificent Six, Pharell Williams and Johnny Marr. Pharell Williams‘ Here is also a must-hear! But Best Song goes to Phosphorescent’s “Song for Zula,” which made a special moment between Peter and Gwen ten times more memorable.
4. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone
There’s nothing like real love! Real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are adorable as ever as the struggling to-be-or-not-to-be couple Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Stone is cute as a button like always while Garfield is perfect as the goofy yet sexy Peter. All the moments the two share are so charmingly sweet they’ll make you forget you’re watching a superhero action movie and not some rom-com flick! Their scenes together will make your heart soar even more than Spider-Man’s death-defying stunts!
5. It’s better than the first
Let’s face it, the first of Marc Webb’s reboot was disappointing to say the least. Thankfully, they upped the ante for the sequel with a meatier story, more spectacular special effects, better executed fight scenes, and a more moving focus on the relationships between and among the characters.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, distributed by Columbia Pictures, is now showing in Philippine cinemas.
